St. Rose School as seen on Google Streetview

Around 10:30pm Thursday night, Police were called to the area of St. Rose School located at 871 St. Rose Avenue after receiving reports that several young people were behind the school smashing a vending machine.

When police arrived, they found an insecure door, and located a smashed gumball machine in the schoolyard at the north side of the school. Police could hear noises coming from inside the school, and they announced themselves and advised that a K9 unit was on scene and would be deployed.

The K9 unit began to conduct an outside perimeter check of the school. The K9 handler heard a steel door open on the North side of the school and saw two suspects exit the school. When the suspects saw the officer they fled on foot through the schoolyard.

Several verbal commands were issued to the fleeing suspects warning them to stop or else the dog would be sent. The suspects ignored the commands and the K9 was released. The dog apprehended one of the suspects by biting his right arm and taking him to the ground. The 14-year-old was treated for two small punctures to his right arm.

Police then attended an apartment building in the 6400 block of Wyandotte Street East and placed three other males aged 17, 18, and 19 under arrest without incident.

All four of the arrested males are facing charges of break and enter, mischief, and theft.

Police say that a subsequent investigation determined that the gumball machine was removed by the suspects from Centennial Pool located at 6695 Wyandotte Street East.
