Starting at 8am Friday law enforcement agencies around the world will connect via Twitter to participate in a 24-hour Tweet-a-thon to bring attention to the use of social media by law enforcement.  Agencies will tweet using the same hashtag, #poltwt, to create awareness about police work and issues police face as well as to promote the use of social media in policing.

There are currently more than 200 agencies participating from the United States, Canada, UK, Sweden, Iceland, and Australia.  In our area, both Windsor Police and Chatham-Kent police will take part.

In Windsor a virtual ride-a-long with police will start at 10am, giving followers a glimpse of a day in the life of policing. From approximately 10am to noon, Sgt D’Asti will be tweeting along with The Forensic Identification Unit. Sgt Mizuno will be tweeting with patrol officers working the downtown area from 10am to 2pm.

In Chatham-Kent the virtual ride-a-long will take place between 10am and 2pm.

You can follow @windsorpolice and @CKPSmedia for a behind the scenes look into the police life.
