Police say it was a bad night for a 21-year-old impaired driver with the munchies.
Friday evening, police were at the corner of Park Street and Ouellette Avenue where they had just arrested a pair of individuals for fighting. The police paddy wagon was parked on Park Street just west of Ouellette.
A 2001 Pontiac Sunfire pulled up behind the wagon and stopped. Officers standing nearby motioned to the male driver to back up and drive around the wagon as he was blocking traffic on Ouellette Avenue.
The driver of the car went to reverse but actually drove forward into the rear of the paddy wagon, striking it.
Police then spoke with the driver and determined that he was under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested for impaired driving.
Police brought the male to police headquarters for a breathalyzer. The driver ended up with a reading of 120 milligrams, 40 milligrams over the legal limit.
He was also charged with operating a motor vehicle with an open package of alcohol. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for 7 days.
The wagon received no damage and the car sustained approximately $200 damage.
