Museum Commemorates the Anniversary of the Abolition of Slavery

On Friday, August 4th at 6 p.m., the Amherstburg Freedom Museum will host the Emancipation Celebration at the Giovanni Caboto Club. The annual event recognizes the Abolition of Slavery in Canada that went into effect on August 1, 1834, making this year it 183rd anniversary.

This year’s theme is Red and White Party, Celebrating Canada’s 150th. Join us for dinner and an evening of dancing, featuring music by In the Pocket Band, you won’t want to miss it! Guests are encouraged dress in red and white to complement the evening’s festivities. Dancing, silent auction, awards ceremony and presentation will round out the evening.

The celebration continues on Saturday, August 5, as we will host the annual Walter Perry Emancipation Golf Classic, named after “Mr. Emancipation” himself, Shotgun Start at 8:00 a.m. at Fox Glen Golf Club in McGregor, ON.
