Health Unit COVID-19 Cases & Outbreaks Update For Friday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 19 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Friday.
New & Total Cases
The Health Unit says 8 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 8 cases are community acquired, and the acquisition sources of 3 cases are still under investigation.
Total overall cases increased from 20,471 on Thursday October 28th to 20,490 on Friday October 29th.
They say 174 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex (increase of 1 since yesterday).
Variants of Concern
- 1,839 of the total variant cases to date have been the Alpha variant (B.1.1.7)
- 4 of the total variant cases to date have been the Beta variant (B.1.351)
- 16 of the total variant cases to date have been the Gamma variant (P.1)
- 2,896 of the total variant cases to date have been the Delta variant (B.1.617.2) (increase of 17)
- 2 of the total variant cases to date has been the Kappa variant (B.1.617.1)
The Health Unit says there is a time delay of several days between specimen collection, preliminary screening, and confirmation of a variant case’s strain. The numbers listed are not necessarily correlated to today’s new cases due to the delay.
Vaccinations
Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex):
- 324,503 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+221 since yesterday)
- 16,503 people have received only their first dose of a vaccine (-174 since yesterday)
- 308,000 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+395 since yesterday)
- 5,016 people have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (+42 since yesterday)
- A total of 637,519 vaccine doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+658 since yesterday)
Vaccination Percentages
- 74.0 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of < 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
- 85.5 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 12+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of < 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
- 70.3 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) are fully vaccinated (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
- 81.2 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 12+) are fully vaccinated (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
Note: The Health Unit says 438,001 people are living in Windsor and Essex County in 2021.

The Health Unit lists 19,852 total resolved cases.
That’s an increase of 18 resolved cases since yesterday.
Deaths
There have been no additional deaths from COVID-19 today and the local death toll stands at 464.

The Health Unit lists 12 hospitalizations today: 6 people in acute care (decrease of 1), and 6 people in the ICU (increase of 1) with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
