A Windsor man is facing several charges after police found him in a stolen vehicle.

Police say around 10:30 am on Thursday, February 4th, 2021, a vehicle was reported stolen in the 500 block of Erie Street East. The vehicle had been left running at the time of the theft.

At approximately 10:55 am, a Windsor Police patrol officer observed the stolen vehicle at Goyeau Street and Chatham Street East. The vehicle was driving at a high rate of speed and was going the wrong way on Chatham Street East.

Officers safely stopped the vehicle at Chatham Street East and McDougall Avenue. The driver attempted to flee from police and, in the process, caused minor damage to a police vehicle. No one was injured in the incident.

Police also found that the driver was also a suspect in a mischief investigation that occurred earlier in the day at a business located in the 300 block of Riverside Drive East.

Justin O’Keefe, a 31-year-old male from Windsor, is charged with theft of a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime, flight from peace officer and mischief under $5,000.

Anyone in the 500 block of Erie Street East where the theft occurred are requested to check their surveillance cameras for possible footage and evidence.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Windsor Police Service at 519-255-6700 ext. 4307, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 519-258-8477 (TIPS) or online at www.catchcrooks.com.

Police remind the public that you should never leave your keys in the vehicle or leave your car running unattended.
