1 New Death, 32 New Cases Of COVID-19 In Windsor Essex On Friday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 32 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Friday, bringing the local total to 12,931.

Today’s New Cases

Cases increased from 12,899 on Thursday February 25th to 12,931 on Friday February 26th and 261 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

The Health Unit says 1 case is outbreak-related, 14 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 9 cases are community-acquired, 1 case is travel-related outside of North America, and 7 cases are still being investigated by the Health Unit’s nursing staff.

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today:

  • 2,768 people have received only their first dose of the vaccine (+462 since yesterday)
  • 11,528 people have received both doses of the vaccine (full series) (+17 since yesterday)
  • A total of 25,824 doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+496 since yesterday)

Health Unit CEO Theresa Marentette says in the one day since the vaccine registration form was available for those 80 and up, the Health Unit received approximately 8,400 submissions, and 7,000 individual people identified as aged 80 and up. She says the Health Unit’s staff will be going over the list to remove any duplicates and the first group of randomly-selected people will be notified shortly for Monday’s clinic.

Resolved Cases

The Health Unit lists 12,291 total resolved cases.

That’s an increase of 30 resolved cases today.

Deaths

The Health Unit announced one additional death from COVID-19 today bringing the local death toll to 379.

They say a man in his 70s from the community passed away.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 47 hospitalizations today: 42 people in acute care (1 less today), and 5 people in the ICU (1 more today) with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
