3 New Deaths, 199 New Cases Of COVID-19 In Windsor Essex On Thursday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 199 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Thursday, bringing the local total to 9,045.

Cases increased from 8,846 on Wednesday January 6th to 9,045 on Thursday January 7th and 2,512 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

The Health Unit says 31 cases are outbreak-related, 9 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, and 159 cases are still being investigated.

They say 6,343 people locally have recovered (an increase of 148 recoveries).

There have been three new deaths from COVID-19 as of Thursday bringing the local death toll to 190. The Health Unit says a woman in her 60s residing in a long-term care home, a woman in her 80s residing in a long-term care home, and a man in his 90s from the community, passed away.

Hospitalizations

On Thursday, the Health Unit lists 87 hospitalizations: 71 people in acute care (6 less today), and 16 people in the ICU (1 more today) with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
