127 New Cases Of COVID-19, 1 New Death, 2 New Outbreaks In Windsor Essex As Of Wednesday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit has announced 127 new cases of COVID-19 as of Wednesday, bringing the local total to 4,238.

Cases increased from 4,111 on Tuesday December 8th to 4,238 on Wednesday December 9th and 556 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

Wednesday’s 127 cases is a new daily case record for Windsor. The previous record was 119 new cases on June 28th.

The Health Unit says 20 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 1 case is a local healthcare worker, 3 cases are community acquired, 1 case is an agri-farm worker, and the origins of 102 cases are still being investigated.

They say 3,597 people locally have recovered (an increase of 61 recoveries today).

There has been one new death due to COVID-19 as of Wednesday bringing the local death toll to 85. Health Unit CEO Theresa Marentette says a man in his 20s from the community without underlying conditions passed away.

“My heart is truly saddened by the 27-year-old male who died due to COVID,” said Dr. Wajid Ahmed, Medical Officer of Health for Windsor Essex. “I don’t even want to imagine how hard it is for a family to lose someone that young.”

As of Wednesday, the Health Unit lists 33 hospitalizations: 24 people in acute care (an decrease of 3 today), and 9 people in the ICU (an decrease of 1 today) with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex. Twenty hospitalizations are listed at Windsor Regional Hospital.

Long-term Care / Retirement Home Outbreaks

As of Wednesday, six long-term care/retirement homes remain under outbreak:

  • Devonshire Retirement Residence (Windsor) has 0 resident cases and 1 staff case
  • Chartwell St. Clair Beach (Tecumseh) has 9 resident cases and 0 staff cases (5 new resident cases today)
  • Village of Aspen Lake (Windsor) has 0 resident cases and 2 staff cases
  • Chartwell Royal Oak Residence (Kingsville) has 0 resident cases and 2 staff cases
  • Leamington Mennonite (Leamington) has 0 resident cases and 2 staff cases
  • Riverside Place (Windsor) has 17 resident cases and 4 staff cases (1 new staff case today)

Workplace Outbreaks

As of Wednesday, the following workplaces remain under outbreak and there are two new outbreaks:

  • 3 outbreaks at agri-farms in Leamington (One added Wednesday at 5:30pm)
  • 2 outbreak at an agri-farm in Kingsville (new today) (One added Wednesday at 5:30pm)
  • 1 outbreak at a health care and social assistance workplace in Lakeshore
  • 1 outbreak at a health care and social assistance workplace in Windsor
  • 1 outbreak at a finance and insurance workplace in Leamington
  • 1 outbreak at a manufacturing facility in Windsor
  • 1 outbreak at a manufacturing facility in Kingsville
  • 1 outbreak at a manufacturing facility in Tecumseh (new today)

School Outbreaks

As of Wednesday, the outbreaks at W.J. Langlois and F.W. Begley have ended and two schools remain under outbreak:

  • General Brock Public School
  • Corpus Christi Catholic Middle School – Central Park Athletics Campus

Community Outbreaks

As of Wednesday, there is one community outbreak:

  • Victoria Manor

Hospital Outbreaks

As of Wednesday, there are two hospital outbreaks:

  • Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare
  • Windsor Regional Hospital
