Hôtel Dieu Grace Healthcare has released additional information on a cluster of COVID-19 cases announced by the Health Unit on Friday afternoon.

The hospital says they have less than twenty confirmed and/or under-investigation cases of COVID-19. They say all patients in the affected unit are being tested and that all staff who have worked on the affected unit during the timeframe under investigation will be offered testing.

Hospital CEO Janice Kaffer says Erie Shores HealthCare will be assisting with the testing of patients and staff.

The Health Unit announced Friday that they are working closely with hospital administrators “to determine the source of transmission and the potential risk to staff and patients” and that the cluster extends to both Hotel Dieu Grace and Windsor Regional Hospital’s Ouellette Campus.

While the investigation is underway, the hospital has implemented additional restrictions, effective immediately, including closing the affected unit to any new admissions, enhanced cleaning of the affected unit, temporarily suspending their Designated Care Partners visitation program on the affected unit, reinforcing the importance of the use of personal protective equipment and consistent washing of hands and respecting of physical distancing across the campus.

“Since the onset of this pandemic, HDGH has taken decisive and immediate action with the ever evolving dynamics of COVID-19 in our community,” said Kaffer in a statement. “The safety of our staff, physicians, visitors and our community at large, has and will remain our top priority.”

The hospital restricted general visitations on November 17th.
