Construction has begun on the Tecumseh Town Hall renovation which will result in changes to the front lawn, public access and parking.

“There will be some changes and some temporary inconveniences during construction,” said Gary McNamara, Mayor of Tecumseh. “We are confident everyone will be happy with the overall improvements. Several trees are being replaced around Town Hall and a landscaping plan will see the implementation of a stormwater management plan, additional parking, a larger civic promenade, new Council chamber entrance and improved energy efficiency lighting.”

Early in the new year, public access will be available off McNorton Street. There are seven designated spots for the public in this lot near the rear entrance to Council Chambers. The front counters will be re-located to Council Chambers during construction to provide service for public works, finance, clerks, building and planning departments

Parking at Town Hall will be at a premium and as such the OPP Safe Trade Zone next to Tecumseh OPP will be temporarily suspended. There is a Safe Trade Zone located at the Lakeshore OPP detachment at 775 Notre Dame Street.

“There is a lot of change happening at Town Hall and it will affect how we do business at our front counter,” said Marg Misek-Evans, Chief Administrative Officer. “Full front line services are available temporarily in Council Chambers while our renovations are underway. Council meetings will be re-located to Tecumseh Arena during construction. It’s a big change to the building and we will help our residents navigate during this period. There will be signs directing visitors to parking and our temporary entrance is fully accessible.”

Construction is being completed by Elmara Construction of Tecumseh and is expected to be substantially complete in August 2020.

Council meetings will be held in the Horwood Room at the Tecumseh Arena beginning with the January 14th, 2020 meeting.
