Asian Carp Information Session Planned At Point Pelee National Park

A panel of experts is coming together to discuss the threat of grass carp and other Asian carps to the Great Lakes on Monday, August 19th, 2019 at Point Pelee National Park Visitor Centre.

This information session will focus on grass carp, one of four Asian carp species.

“Anglers, boaters, commercial fisherman, and concerned community members all play a critical role in preventing the establishment of these invasive species,” says Rebecca Schroeder, Asian Carp Project Manager at the Invasive Species Centre. “By staying informed and reporting sightings, we protect biodiversity, commercial and recreational fisheries, and other lifestyle activities in the Great Lakes Basin.”

This free event will feature a formal presentation from Fisheries and Oceans Canada followed by a question and answer period with a panel of experts, including representatives from the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters, the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, and Fisheries and Oceans Canada. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the environmental, ecological, and economic risks associated with Asian carps and the efforts in place to monitor and respond to them.

It runs from 6:30pm to 9pm.  Light refreshments will be provided.
