Several people are facing charges after Windsor Police raided an illegal cannabis dispensary.
Police say that around 5pm on Tuesday, November 6th, 2018 investigators used a judicial authorization to search a business in the 400 block of Tecumseh Road West.
Officers entered the business and arrested four parties without incident. They also seized a quantity of drugs, money and other property.
On Wednesday, November 7th, 2018, at approximately 2pm, an outstanding suspect in the investigation attended Windsor Police headquarters where he was placed under arrest.
All five are being charged under the federal cannabis act for selling Cannabis to an adult and possession of cannabis for the purpose of selling.
Police say that the Cannabis Act of Ontario regulates possession, use, sale and distribution of cannabis in the province of Ontario. Under this legislation the only way to currently purchase legal cannabis is through mail order through the government-owned and operated online Ontario Cannabis Store.
A provision in the act allows for applications for licences to operate storefront dispensaries; however that portion of the act is not expected to take effect until April of 2019. Any storefronts that are currently in operation are not operating lawfully, and are distributing cannabis obtained through sources other than the government’s online store.
