Last updated: Saturday January 7th, 5:45pm

Damage is extensive after an overnight fire at the Story Book Early Learning Center in Essex.

It broke out around just before midnight Friday at the building located at 26 Arthur Street.

It took fire crews from all three Essex Fire stations as well as crews from Kingsville and Lakeshore several hours to bring it under control.

The building was empty at the time of the fire, and there were no injuries.

The cause is under investigation.

Meanwhile, the Story Book Early Learning Center location at Essex Public School will be fully functional for those families whose children are already enrolled at that location.

According to center director Donna Hedrick, they are currently working diligently to secure a new location for those affected by the fire.

“We owe an enormous debt of gratitude to the firefighters of Essex, Lakeshore, and Kingsville who battled this blaze in sub-zero temperatures throughout the night,” said Hedrick. “Thank you as well to our families, our staff and the entire community for the outpouring of kindness and support. We look forward to reuniting with all of you as soon as possible.”
