Lakeshore Man Charged With Theft Of Electricity

OPP in Lakeshore, along with the Essex County OPP Crime Unit, the Essex County OPP Emergency Response Team as well as Hydro One Theft of Power Investigators attended a residence in Belle River to execute a search warrant on January 8th.

Investigators discovered that the resident had bypassed the hydro meter and was benefitting from electrical cost savings.

Officers also located a mini crossbow in the residence, which is classified as a Prohibited Weapon as defined by the Criminal Code of Canada.

As a result, William Grant, age 47 of Lakeshore was charged with theft of electricity or gas, unauthorized possession of a weapon, possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order, and fail to comply with probation order.
