The Ontario Special Investigation Unit has been called in to investigate after a man was arrested by the OPP in Tecumseh.
Police say officers saw a man operating an e-bike without helmet in Tecumseh just before 8pm Wednesday.
Officers attempted to arrest the man, who police say was known by the OPP to be prohibited from driving a motor vehicle in Canada, but police allege he resisted arrest.
Police were required to deploy the conducted energy weapon, or Taser, to assist the arrest. The suspect was transported to hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.
OPP has charged 42-year-old Jason Jeffery Johnson with assault with intent to resist arrest and prohibited driving contrary to the Criminal Code.
The OPP has notified the province’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU) which has invoked its mandate.
As a result, police say they will not be able to provide any further information at this time.
