For the past 12 years Windsor Dance eXperience has been inspiring children, teens, and adults through the artistry of dance theatre, but the group is in desperate need of a new rehearsal space.

Windsor Dance eXperience, also known as WDX, recently found out they will be losing their rehearsal space and by June 1st they will have to move. The non-profit community theatre group creates one-of-a-kind shows featuring dancers from age six and up and they require a large space to rehearse, build sets, and store props and costumes.

“We had built a home quite comfortably at our current space with the dream we would be there forever so it came as quite a shock when we were told we would have to move,” said Artistic Director Tiffany C. Wentzell.

While the group has possibly found a new rehearsal space, it will still require extensive work to make it suitable for the dancers’ safety. On April 4th the dance group started a GoFundMe campaign with the goal of raising $7000.

“The most inexpensive, adequate space we have found is triple what we are paying right now. Of course there was no budget planned for this and we still need our regular funds to put on the show,” said Wentzell.

At WDX, anyone aged six and up who attends auditions gets to participate in shows, offering the theatre experience to anyone who has a passion for the arts. Their productions are created from scratch instead of using pre-made theatre shows. The group works as a team to write scripts, create a soundtrack, choreograph, and stage one-of-a-kind theatre experiences.

“I used to go to the typical dance studios where you put on a recital at the end of the year, and you did the dances you were choreographed and costumes you were given: you didn’t have a say,” said dancer Jocelyn Bedard, 22. “With WDX, everyone is involved in the shows. We all help with costumes, props, ideas, and even the choreography. It is really exciting putting on a show that you know you helped create.”

To keep Windsor Dance eXperience moving forward they are pleading for the community’s help for their GoFundMe campaign.

“Over the years I have watched our junior members become seniors and go off to university still holding onto the lessons we instill in our dancers like teamwork, dedication and responsibility. I have watched shy little children grow into bright stars and become leaders for the next group of juniors to walk through the doors,” said Wentzell.

“WDX has made me more outgoing and less shy with people and crowds. I am more confidant because of WDX,” said 10-year-old dancer Kendra Agius.

Cosmos is their newest production, to be performed May 30th and 31st at the Capitol Theatre. The show combines science and art as the dancers explore our solar system.

“This show is full of new and exciting things for this company, from fabric dances to sand; hooping to rain storms, it definitely is not a show to be missed!” said Drake Prosser-Spence, who is playing the role of Neptune in Cosmos.
