Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit has been called in to investigate the circumstances surrounding a crash and the attempted arrest of man for impaired driving.

Tecumseh OPP responded to a crash on Country Road 46 west of Sexton Side Road at 3:18am, Wednesday, and found that a 57-year-old man from Woodslee had ran his vehicle off the road, striking a culvert.

While attempting to arrest the driver for impaired operation of a motor vehicle, police say the driver resisted arrest and had to be restrained.

He was transported to hospital and was treated for his injuries.

The OPP notified the province’s SIU which has invoked its mandate.
