Local officials are safe after a solider was shot and killed on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, Wednesday morning.
Ottawa Police say a Canadian Forces member was shot at the War Memorial around 9:52am.
Federal NDP staffers said Windsor members of parliament Brian Masse and Joe Comartin were safe. Essex MP Jeff Watson was also reported to be safe inside the Centre Block of Parliament.
Members of parliament and government officials tweeted hearing dozens of gunshots inside the Centre Block of Parliament Hill.
Police confirmed that a suspect was killed. Witnesses tweeted that police exchanged gunfire in a parliament building and later saw the suspect motionless on the ground.
In the early afternoon, Ottawa Police confirmed that the Canadian soldier succumbed to his injuries.
