Man Charged With First Degree Murder After 2012 Car Accident

A Leamington man has been charged with first degree murder after a accident in 2012 killed a man.

OPP say that the accident occurred on October 21st, 2012, when a pickup truck left the roadway and struck a building on Talbot Street in Leamington. Two people inside the vehicle were injured.

On October 27th , 2012 55-year-old Edward Witt from Windsor, a passenger in the vehicle, succumbed to injuries he sustained in the collision.

Members of the Essex County Crime Unit under the direction of Detective Inspector Chris Avery with the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch commenced a lengthy and extensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision.

As a result, OPP have now arrested and charged 42-year-old Andrew Cowan from Leamington with one count of first degree murder.

He will appear in Windsor Court on Monday, October 27, 2014.
