The Windsor/Essex County Humane Society says that charges were laid on Thursday against an Amherstburg couple following a seizure early this week of three dogs, four cats, and one turtle.

They say that all of the animals were found in filthy conditions, and the dogs were extremely underweight.

Six charges were laid against both individuals for permitting the dogs to be in distress, and for failing to comply with legal standards for their care.

The  Humane Society says that for the dogs’ protection,  investigators obtained a court order to keep them in Humane Society protective custody until the legal proceedings relating to the charges have been concluded
