Police have one man in custody after an armed robbery at a pharmacy at Erie Street and Goyeau.

Around 3:45pm Saturday, police say a pharmacist had locked his business and was preparing to close for the day while friends of his waited for him in the business’ waiting room.

Police say the pharmacist heard a knock at the door and saw a male customer outside who asked to come in. The pharmacist reportedly opened the door, let the man in, and walked to the counter where the man brandished a knife and demanded Ritalin.

The suspect allegedly held the knife against the pharmacist but the pharmacist was able to grab the hands of the suspect and yell at his friends for help.

The three men got the knife from the suspect, called 911, and held him on the floor until police arrived.

Police charged 32-year-old John Brindle with robbery and failure to comply with a condition of a judicial release for possessing a weapon.
