The Town of Essex is looking for input on important issues that may affect those who live within the town.

To do so, the town has created two short online surveys to collect input about the proposed Outdoor Smoke-Free By-law and the need for accessible taxicabs.

The Smoke-Free Ontario Act currently prohibits smoking in all municipal buildings. Essex Town Council is considering passing a municipal by-law to ban or restrict smoking outdoors on municipally-owned properties. Through the Outdoor Smoke-Free By-Law Survey, the Town is seeking input on whether smoking should be banned or restricted on specific types of properties. The survey contains only 7 questions.

The survey on accessible taxis is intended to assist the Town in complying with the Integrated Accessibility Regulation (Ontario Regulation 191/11) under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act. The Town would like to determine the extent of the need for accessible taxicabs in our community. This survey contains 8 questions.

Donna Hunter, Director of Corporate Services, is interested in hearing from a broad cross-section of community members.

“Public participation is important to understanding the needs and wishes of our community, and the results will assist Council in the decision-making process,” says Hunter.

The Accessible Taxi Survey will be available online until November 24th and the Outdoor Smoke-Free By-Law Survey until November 30th. Paper copies will be available at Town Hall and other municipal facilities.
