Downtown Stabbing Victim Was A UWindsor Student

Windsor Police have identified the victim killed Saturday morning during a stabbing in Downtown Windsor and say they have leads on possible suspects.

Police say 19-year-old Gautham (Kevin) Kugathasan was pronounced dead at hospital after being transported by EMS from the scene. 

Kugathsan was killed when two groups of men became involved in an altercation on Pelissier Street near University Avenue around 2:30am. Police say the confrontation continued over a one-block span.

Police say Kugathsan was a University of Windsor student who resided in the university area — his family resides in Scarborough Ontario.

Five additional males suffered stab wounds during the melee; two of those men remain in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Windsor Police Sergeant Matthew D’Asti says investigators are continuing to interview witnesses and are reviewing multiple videos from a number of businesses, residential, and city cameras. Several “persons of interest” have been identified an D’Asti says investigators expect to file charges in the near future.
