Some changes coming to the parking enforcement system in the city as of Friday.

The current system of fines and possible court appearances will be replaced by a penalty system, in which any challenges will be dealt with outside of the Ontario Court system by a hearing officer at the City’s 1266 McDougall office.

“This new approach will take some of the burden off courtroom scheduling and also cut the amount of time it takes to process parking infractions for the city”, said Supervisor of Parking Enforcement Bill Kralovensky.

With the current system it can take up to 90 days from ticket issuance to a final result but under the new system they city says that this will take closer to 45 days.

In addition, there will be an automatic late penalty applied to tickets not acted on within 15 days, all costs of processing tickets, including any extra administrative fees, will be recouped and photo evidence will be captured for each infraction.
