A 40-year-old Kanata woman has been charged after police allege she was speeding on the 401 with unbelted children in the back seat.

OPP pulled the vehicle over on the 401 around noon today, near Victoria Road, in Chatham-Kent.

Police clocked the vehicle at 136 km/hr in a 100 km/hr zone. Police say a 5-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl were not wearing a seatbelt in the back seat.

The driver, a 40-year-old, Kanata, Ontario woman has been charged with speeding and failing to ensure children were properly secured.

The OPP says drivers are responsible for ensuring that passengers under 16 years of age are using seatbelts or an appropriate child car seat.
