Man Accused Of Attempted Murder Arraigned In Court

A man accused of attempted murder was arraigned today in court.

The incident took place this past Sunday in the 1600 block of Hickory, when the pick up truck the accused was driving hit a house.  He was arrested at that time for impaired driving and transported to Windsor Police Headquarters.

Witnesses to the crash have have provided information to police indicating that prior to the accident the male driver had assaulted his common-law wife who then escaped from the vehicle. The male then attempted to run the victim down with the truck. The victim was able to take shelter behind a tree and was not struck by the vehicle. She did suffer facial injuries during the previous assault and was treated and released from hospital.

28-year-old Sonny Edward St. Martin has been charged with attempted murder, dangerous driving, assault with a weapon, two counts of assault, theft of a motor vehicle and breach probation.

His next scheduled court appearance is July 11th.
