On Tuesday morning, the owner of a Jeep Cherokee parked his vehicle in the parking lot of the Rexall at 815 Erie Street East. The vehicle was left unlocked. Upon returning to his vehicle, the owner discovered the vehicle had been entered and items were stolen. On January 9th, officers responded to the 800 block of Tecumseh Road East for a report of a male going through vehicles. Upon arrival officers observed and detained a suspect, who was found in possession of suspected stolen property.

The suspect was released pending further investigation.

It was later discovered the property belonged to the owner of the Jeep Cherokee. On the same date just before 4pm, officers attended the area of Walker and Ottawa Street for reports of a male looking into vehicles. Upon arrival officers found the same suspect looking into the window of a Ford pick up truck. The suspect was arrested for possession of stolen property, and subsequent to arrest was found in possession of items stolen from inside the Ford truck. There was no damage caused to either vehicle.

A 44 year old male of Windsor faces 2 charges of possession of property obtained by crime.

The Windsor Police Service would like to remind members of the community to always roll up their windows and lock their vehicles’ doors. An open window or an unlocked door provides an opportunity for thieves to steal property from a vehicle, or the vehicle itself. Valuables within a vehicle should always be kept out of sight. We also encourage members of the public to report suspicious persons or vehicles to the police.
