Taking place in Toronto and kicking off today, Canadian Music Week is an event in it’s thirtieth year, one that focuses on the music business. In addition to a trade expo and conferences, there is also a five night, sixty venue, nine hundred band showcase, known as Canadian Music Fest.

Although nine hundred bands sounds like a lot, out of the thousands of applicants who look to play, the number selected to do so is quite small. Which makes it all the more exciting when four local bands are given the opportunity to showcase what Windsor has to offer. The delegates from our city span the wide range of genres that can be found in our basements, bars, and clubs.

For heavy team, we have the prog-metal extraordinaires, Perpetuate. Fronted by operatic vocals that reach the stratosphere, with blazing guitar solos, stampeding drums, and bellowing bass, this extremely technical band is a solid choice to represent the metal scene in our city.

Perpetuate will be playing the Virgin Mobile Mod Club (722 College St.) on Sunday, March 25th at 11:30 pm, playing the Sign Me To Roadrunner Records Showcase.

The folk sector will be represented by the unquiet dead. Although this band has been playing shows for less than six months, the nine-piece of seasoned musicians has been turning heads across the province since their debut. An extremely tight blend of traditional folk, world, psychedlic, and a bit of blues, their haunting melodies stick with you well after their set is over.

The unquiet dead will be playing Rancho Relaxo (300 College St. W.) on Wednesday, March 21st at 9:00 pm for the Two way Monologues Showcase.

Carrying the baton for alternative rock will be ClassX, a band that you might know as The Classix. These guys always put on an entertaining show, and their upbeat tunes that pull from 90’s and modern radio music gets feet moving as audiences are swept up in their catchy and energetic music.

ClassX will be playing The Hard Rock Cafe (279 Yonge St.) on Friday, March 23rd at 7:00 pm for the Supernova Showcase.

Windsor blues rock find it’s champion in The Blue Stones, a tremendously talented duo who have worked their way into a staple position in the local scene, and are now getting the chance to bring their sound to a larger audience. Theirs is the sort of music that can appeal to anyone while still being original and creative enough to stand out against all the other bands.

The Blue Stones will be playing The Sister (1554 Queen St. W.) on Thursday, March 22nd at 10:00 pm for the CMF showcase.
