Windsor Police have a 20-year-old Windsor man in custody facing an array of charges stemming from two separate incidents over a two month period.

The first incident took place at 1am on December 17th 2011, when a 36-year-old man was viciously assaulted by an unknown male at the Mynt Nightclub located at 100 University Avenue West.

The victim received a broken nose, lacerations about the face, a chipped tooth and a concussion. The victim was treated and released from hospital.

Then on February 2nd 2012, detectives investigating the assault were able to identify a 20-year-old suspect believed to be responsible for the attack. At 11:30pm that evening, officers assigned to the Target Base Unit observed the suspect driving a black Lincoln pickup truck in the area of Kenilworth Drive at Howard Avenue.

The truck pulled into the parking lot of a plaza located at 3395 Howard Avenue and parked. Officers from the Emergency Services Unit then entered the parking lot in an attempt to arrest the suspect, however upon seeing the officers, the suspect accelerated the truck through the parking lot, jumping several parking barriers and driving through a grass ditch before entering Howard Avenue in a northbound direction.

This action caused several vehicles travelling on Howard Avenue to take evasive action to avoid hitting the suspect’s truck. The truck sped off north on Howard Avenue then northwest on South Cameron at an extremely high rate of speed.

Officers located the suspect’s truck minutes later, abandoned near the intersection of Beals Avenue at Driftwood Street. Officers, including a K9 Unit searched the area but failed to locate the suspect.

The K9 Unit, however located a garbage bag containing 2258 grams of cannabis marihuana which had been discarded a short distance from the abandoned truck.

The value of the seized marihuana totalled $22,582.

On February 6, 2012, the suspect attended Windsor Police Headquarters in the company of his lawyer and turned himself in to officers where he was arrested.

Anthony James Amante aged 20 years of 3319 Kenilworth Drive in Windsor is in custody facing charges including Assault Causing Bodily Harm, Dangerous Driving and Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking.
