The Windsor Community Museum, otherwise known as the François Baby House, is located at 254 Pitt Street West, one block west of Ouellette Avenue and one block south of Riverside Drive beside the Radisson Hotel.

The museum is the converted home of a prominent French-Canadian settler to the Windsor area, and was once used as the headquarters for the British and occupying American forces during the War of 1812, and was the site of the 1838 Battle of Windsor.

The Museum retains the residential nature of the building while incorporating open exhibits for hands-on history as well as display cases for documents, artifacts, and works of art. Visitors feel immersed in Windsor’s history and can explore rooms dedicated to time periods, and the peoples who have called this area home.

The Museum also includes a gift shop stocked with toys, books, and music; anything from Marcel Beneteau’s CDs of local French-Canadian folksongs, to antique-style tin-toys.

Check the Museum’s website for their current seasonal hours. The Museum is easily accessible by bus and is located near the downtown Windsor Transit Terminal. Admission is always free to the public.
