Windsor Names New Fire Chief

Mr. R. “Bruce” Montone has been named the new Chief of Windsor Fire and Rescue Services to replace Chief Dave Fields who is retiring.

Chief Montone has been employed in fire services for 30 years, most recently serving nine years as Deputy Fire Chief of Ottawa Fire Services. While with Ottawa, Chief Montone was responsible for Fire Prevention and Public Fire Safety Education, the Communications Division, Special Operations, including Haz-Mat/CBRNe, all Rescue activities including Water & Ice, Auto-Extrication, High Angle, Confined Space, Collapse and USAR Operations.  The Division of Training, Recruitment Incident Safety, and Maintenance completed his portfolio.

Recently, Chief Montone’s new portfolios included Community Standards, Education, Planning & Innovation. Chief Montone is the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs’ Committee Chair for Government Relations, and he is past chairman of the Canadian Transportation Emergency Rescue Committee. He has a long active history with emergency services in a variety of areas including officer development, organizational improvement, employee wellness, performance measurement, program evaluation and team building.  Chief Montone and his teams have been formally recognized for diversity and outreach programs, and for innovative public fire safety programming.

Previous to his tenure in Ottawa, Chief Montone held fire services positions at the Ontario Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM), Southern Region; the OFM Northern Fire Protection Program; the Town of Manitouwadge; and the Elliot Lake Fire Department.

He is a graduate of the Ontario Fire College’s Fire Prevention Technology and Fire Protection Technology courses.

Chief Montone will assume his duties effective Tuesday, September 6, 2011.
