The Honourable Jack Layton passed away Monday morning at the age of 61 after a battle with cancer. Mayor Eddie Francis had all City flags lowered to half staff, and a book of condolences was set up at Windsor City Hall. A letter was shared with Canada written by Mr. Layton just two days before he passed away where he shared his final thoughts with all of us.
On Tuesday a mock disaster took place on the Detroit River by rescue personal on both sides of the river to train for a terrorist attack or major emergency. Just hours later at 1:51pm local time, an earthquake struck near Charlottesville, Virginia in the United States, and the tremors were felt all the way to Windsor.
The Ontario Government pledged millions to Windsor this week for various road projects. Among those is a new College Avenue Bridge, which is set to get replaced starting Labour Day weekend and be completed by Christmas.
It was another week of summer storms. A reader caught this video of a lightening show, and we reported on a possible funnel cloud in Kingsville.
