The Corn Festival kicked off this past Thursday and continued strong into Family Day at the fest this Saturday afternoon.

Admission was free before 1:30 pm and thenceforth was $5.00. Free shuttle service was available from Tecumseh Mall and Tecumseh Arena continuously from noon until 6:00 pm and will be available Sunday as well.

The day started off with a parade where non-perishable items were collected parade-side in benefit of the St. Vincent de Paul Society.  The parade made its way through Lacasse Blvd., alongside the parade route, a few local residents set up shop for great causes.

Joanne Dumouchelle displayed Knot You‘s that are padded accessories that aid in relieving neck pain that is caused by clothing or heavy objects that are carried or worn around the neck.

Glenn from “Hope for Michaela” had a tent full of toys and treats for passerby’s. He passed out bracelets and baby blue ribbons on behalf of his 4 year-old daughter who has Mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS). It is a genetic disorder that affects many body systems and eventually leads to organ damage. He sold water and other small knick knacks and collected donations that go towards finding a cure.

Within the parade grounds, crowds of all ages gathered for a day of fun in the sun, buttery corn and boisterous carnival rides. Mid-afternoon in the Knights of Columbus tent, popular music and the voices of children resonated with glee next to Beebo’s Music Review show. Other family entertainment enjoyed was a Soap Box Derby, a magic show, Corny Crafts for Kids and Jangles the Clown.

The Corn Festival corn crew were courteous and never let the golden abundance run short. Corn can be bought for $1.50 each or 4 for $5.00, drinks were $1.25. This area of the festival was full of festival goers satisfying their corn cravings, amongst other festival favorites such as corn dogs, kettle corn, funnel cakes and ice-cold lemonade.

Another festival tradition that attracted a lot of attention was the 2nd Annual Corn Festival Car Show. Many festival goers walked along Lacasse Blvd. and admired classic cars. From luxury beauties to pure muscle machines, there was something for every car enthusiast to marvel at.

The festival opened today at 8:30 am for mass and a pancake and sausage breakfast. The park will open with free admission for another fun-filled day packed with animals from Zoo to You, Jangles the Clown, a Soccer Kick-off Contest, live entertainment and corn, lots and lots of corn!

The park will close at 10:00 pm and admission to the Knights of Columbus tent will be $5.00.
