Even the extreme heat didn’t dampen the mood for Windsorites who came out for the 21st Annual Charity Golf Classic run by Community Living Essex County.  The temperature reached 90 degrees, but easily felt like 110 degrees when you factored in the humidex. Luckily the heat wasn’t hot enough to get people back inside.  Volunteers and golfers all came out and slathered on the sunscreen for what many deemed a worthwhile cause.

Local sponsors and participants gave their best swing on Wednesday July 20th, to help raise money for summer support.  Lacking funds is a growing issue at Community Living.  Having summer support for individuals with a disability is essential to help social interaction, sports, recreation and community involvement.

Numerous sponsors from around the community including IAC & Associates Inc, Motion Specialties and Webplanet.ca, to name a few, came out to Fox Glen to show their support and hopefully improve their game while they’re at it.

Participants also had a chance to make some money of their own, or walk away with one of the many prizes.  Games included best ball scramble, longest drive contest, closes to the pin prizes, as well as a silent auction including dinner theatre for two and Detroit Tiger Tickets.

One of the bigger prizes was a hole in one contest sponsored by Hammond Insurance Agency in Leamington.  The winner would receive $10, 000, but unfortunately no one sunk the shot. There have only been two winners of the hole in one contest in previous years. The golf tournament is an annual fundraiser, so it will be back next year, hopefully with more sponsors, more support, and a hole in one.
