The information listed below is likely outdated and has been preserved for archival purposes.

On Monday we told you about the Jackson Park Master Plan, a Recreation Infrastructure Canada funded project was over budget.  A report going to the city’s Exective Standing Committee also out lines other  Recreation Infrastructure Canada funded projects that came in over budget.

The new Ojibway Nature Center  had an original budget of $1,817,000.  An additional $317,626 was approve in 2010 and now a request for an additional $86,878 has come before the committee.  This money is needed to cover an electrical feed for an existing storage building. Site alternations and restoration and for the city to supple recycles granite bricks which which were recycles from other city buildings cleaned and delivered to the site at the city’s expense.  This was requires to meet LEED silver certification.

The final price tag for the new complex was $1,904,504.00

The new riverfront stage had an original budget of $2,000,000.  An additional $1,600,000 was added to the project budget in early 2010 to allow for additional features to the stage.  Those included a retaining wall and walk out from McDougall Avenue.  A ramp was also added to make it all accessible and barrier free.  Several unexpected items have come up and now the project needs an additional $250,000 in funding to complete it.

The major expense being poor subsurface conditions which lead to  130 cubic meters of concrete needing to be poured to stabilize the base.  Other reasons for the cost over run was related to work going on with the Riverfront Treatment Basin being constructed down the riverfront.  Location of some of the chambers for this, lead to a redesign of the ramp and retaining wall.

The final cost for the new stage is $3,850,000.00

While both projects came in over there original budget, they have not cost taxpayers anything more.  The budget short fall will be funded with the 5 year capital contingency that council has set up to cover project short falls.

Both projects will server Windsorites for many years to come.
