With weather on its side, The Breast Ride Ever continued fundraising and had a ball (or several.)

On Saturday, May 7, at Hideaway Golf course (496 Elmstead Rd.,) Buckets For Boobs attracted 53 participants. For $10, attendees got a large bucket of balls and were entered into a draw for prizes. Proceeds went to the Windsor & Essex County Cancer Centre Foundation and The Hospice Of Windsor & Essex County.

The event, which raised $700, had a lot of support from the community as well.

“It meant the world to [co-organizer] Anne [Campeau] and I to have the support of the community for our event,” said Nikki Krieger-Campeau. “We had 12-15 volunteers throughout the day and we were grateful for their help.”

Profits from the event will specifically target The Hospice’s services. In addition, The Windsor & Essex Cancer Centre Foundation will use the cash to fund its Seeds4Hope program and help purchase a $232,000 Endobronchial Ultrasound.

“This state-of-the-art bronchoscope and ultrasound machine allows the physician to easily view difficult to reach areas, “ said Krieger-Campeau. “It can access more and smaller lymph nodes for biopsies. The procedure is much less invasive to the patient than traditional surgery used to stage and diagnose lung cancer.“

Several Golf Town gift certificates were awarded through a ticket draw along with two main prizes. J. Mcguire won a $1,500 membership to the golf course and R. Rupert won a free weekend motorcycle course at St. Clair College.

Krieger-Campeau was grateful for sponsors Thunder Road Harley Davidson and Protenders. She also thanked the event’s 12 volunteers, participants and prize donors. The Beaverfest Beaver, Latasia and Extreme Danceworks were acknowledged for their support as well.

While organizers have considered pushing the date back next year, the positive response has encouraged them to make it an annual event.

“People commented that the weather was perfect for the outing,” said Krieger-Campeau. “They had a great time and they are looking forward to next year.”
