A meeting held at Mackenzie Hall yesterday sought input from the West end community regarding their feelings towards a new recreation and aquatic center downtown, and whether or not they would like to see their current facilities utilized in other ways.

City representatives were adamant that no decision has yet been made about whether or not a new complex will be built downtown and were interested only in what members of the area had to say about their current facilities.  Throughout the meeting attendees stood in a united front stating that they would not like to see the pool at Adie Knox closed at the expense of building a newer complex in the downtown area.  Concerns that the residents had were recorded and will be made public at the next city council meeting.

Currently, the cost of running the Adie Knox pool without revenues from fees paid by patrons runs approximately $225-$325 000 per year. The proposed facility will run an estimated yearly operating cost of $1.5 million.

The Border City Brawlers were in attendance at the meeting in hopes of having the public know that they are currently searching for a new home.  The local team  utilizes both the downtown Armouries, and Charles Clark Square, but wanted city officials and representatives to know that the current skating area within the Adie Knox complex could be re-purposed to become a roller skating rink.

The Windsor area has lacked a skating rink since 2005 with the closing of Wheels.  The Border City Brawlers would hope to rent the area for training and competitive bouts along with hosting family and community skate days open to all people.
