The City of Windsor has released long anticipated report dealing with the basement flooding from the June 5th and 6th 2010 rainfall.   This is the same storm that brought the tornadoes to Leamington and canceled day two of Art in the Park.

90 mm of rain fell in just a four hour period between 11:00 pm on June 5th and 3:00 am on June 6th.  It’s been described as a 100 year rain fall event.  After this storm 2,281 calls were received to the City’s 311 service and the City visited 1,276 of those houses.

The report makes several recommendations, one the City designate parts of the City as downspout disconnection areas.  This disconnection will be voluntary and funded though the City’s capital budget.  The City will consider making this mandatory depending on the outcome of the voluntary by-law.

As well, the City will look at a voluntary Basement Flooding Projection Subsidy Program, for existing residents in the disconnection areas.

To see the City’s complete report on the 100 year storm visit their website.
