Taylor Carnevale tries to sneak the puck past Erie's Sadikov during game one on Thursday night at the WFCU Center

The Windsor Spitfires were away last night at the Tullio Arena in Erie, Pennsylvania to take on the Erie Otters.  Erie had edged Windsor in the first game of the playoffs on Thursday by a margin of 2-1 and the Spits were ready to capture a much needed win to tie the series 1-1.

Erie was able to get their first and only powerplay goal despite ten powerplay opportunities  within 10 minutes of the first period.  The Spits were able to rally to score two more goals by Carrick and Ellis before the buzzer went in the first period.  Erie’s McKegg also scored a goal in the first period in between Ellis’ and Carrick’s goals leaving the game tied 2-2 going into the second period.

Jeff Brown scored his first goal of the night with an assist from Ryan Ellis and Jack Campbell during the second period of play.  This was the only goal scored in the second, giving the Spits a 3-2 lead heading into the third period.

Erie’s Szydlowski scored the game tying goal 6 minutes into the third period forcing the overtime.  Both teams were very strong on the penalty kill and goal tending, Windsor was 0 for 6 on the powerplay and Erie was 1 for 10.  Jack Campbell made a total of 40 saves and Erie’s Sadikov made 45 saves.

The first overtime period was scoreless but Jeff Brown was able to grab a blocked shot and got it off quickly and scored in the second overtime period!

The series is now tied 1-1 and game 3 will be tomorrow night at the WFCU Center.
