Hello time traveller!!

The information listed below is likely outdated and has been preserved for archival purposes.

With Windsor Arts and Music Monthly (WAMM) being without an issue since September 2010, and only sporadic coverage of the local music scene via other sources, for a while it has been rather difficult to get the full picture of what goes on week-to-week in our city’s music scene.

Enter The Windsor Zene, a multi-media publication looking to spread the word on Windsor’s entire music scene from metal, to folk, to electronic, to indie, and everything indefinable that can be found in this city.  It exists as a blog, twitter feed, Youtube channel, Facebook group, and “collective of stapled paper with words in it”.

The Windsor Zene was started in January 2011 by Jamie Greer and Murad Erzinclioglu, both very active members of the music community. Jamie originally started writing about music in Windsor with The Windsor Scene in 1999, an online directory of bands and shows. The site eventually turned into a radio show on CJAM (then 91.5, now 99.1) and a column in Upfront Magazine. With Upfront’s move to Ottawa, The Windsor Scene moved to WAMM, where it was taken over by Murad in early 2010. Murad himself is involved with multiple musical acts, is the current music director for CJAM, and is a co-founder of the annual Harvesting The F.A.M. Festival, which was voted into the top 30 of CBC Radio 3’s Top Festivals in Canada Spotlight in 2010.

The list of contributors to the site is growing, and at this point everyone involved is doing it for the love of the scene. Previews and reviews on shows and CDs as well as other news of the Windsor arts community can be found on a site that is updated frequently, nearly always including photos and videos of the acts being mentioned.

The site also hosts and events calendar where show-goers can get information on upcoming shows for the entire month, and a band directory of current and past Windsor groups.
