Today in the race day of the Red Bull Air Race World Championship Hannes Arch from Austria took first place for his third straight win in this season.  He suffered a major pylon hit on one of the training days and recovered to take first.  He has one of the lightest planes on the tour and actually has to add a balast to meet the minimum weight restriction.  Some have called his silver Abu Dhabi plane the “silver bullet”.  Britain’s Paul Bonhomme took a close second with Kirby Chambliss taking up the third place position.

The Canadian air racer, Pete Mcleod managed to pull in a ninth place finish good enough for 3 points in the championship.  He is currently tied for 5th place with Matt Hall, the Aussie who was not able to race today due to some jetskiing on the course yesterday in his plane.

The current overall standings for the World Championship are:  From www.redbullairrace.com

Despite losing to Hannes Arch, Paul Bonhomme said it was a brilliant afternoon of racing and it was very close.  Kirby Chambliss (USA) is looking forward to the next race in New York City and hoping to take home the gold on his home soil.

The overall turnout from Windsorites was excellent despite the possibility of storms, which thankfully did not happen until about 15 minutes after the final awards were given out.
