When Carrie Charles decided to take the leap of faith into entrepreneurship again, she knew she’d have it perfected this time around – out of it, Carizma Hair Salon was born.

Wella Hair Products

After attending Vincent Massey Secondary School, Charles waitressed for years before vacationing with a relative in Edmonton. “When I walked into the salon that my aunt owned there, I thought to myself… I can totally do this,” Charles recalls.

Graduating from St. Clair College’s Hairstyling program when she was 27-years-old, Charles raced back to Edmonton where she worked until she was homesick. Upon returning to Windsor, she opened Carizma, the first and original salon.

“Things didn’t exactly tie well together when I opened it. The location was bad, I was unhappy and untrustworthy of my staff… I just threw my hands up and said that I did not want to do this anymore if this is how ownership was supposed to be.”

Now disappeared (due to the Parkway Project district), Carizma closed and Charles began renting chairs around local salons. When Charles became employed by Rouge Salon And Spa, she met Katie Czarnecki.

Czarnecki had talks of selling her salon, and after completing her family with her third child, she knew it was time. “It was almost like fate,” says Charles, “I had thought about owning a place again, and Katie basically had handed me the platter to start over.”

With only a single month to move out of one salon and into the next, it was accomplished in January of 2015.

Charles says the new Carizma was destiny; with the old location gone, growing up in the South Windsor area, and being a regular at Cramdon’s Tap and Eatery (which Carizma now resides next to).

Charles says the wonderful Rouge staff put everything in place; “I don’t have to babysit this bunch,” laughs Charles. “I have Czarnecki to thank for this opportunity again. She’ll always have an open chair here waiting for her.”

Now that all renovations are officially complete, Carizma will have it’s grand opening Sunday, October 4th from 1pm until 5pm. Hair and make-up demonstrations, food and drinks will be provided thanks to Wella Professionals, Cramdon’s Tap and Eatery, and of course the employees at Carizma Hair Salon.

You can visit Carrie Charles, or any of the fellow stylists, at 2950 Dougall Avenue in South Windsor. You can walk-in or make an appointment by calling (519) 915-5559.
