Xanadu Health Club is a hidden gem in the outskirts of Lakeshore.

Opened five years ago by sisters, Samantha and Simone Shepley, the complex provides not only fitness but focuses on the body and mind as well.

The gym is a unisex facility -– with an optional women’s confidential section –- and features a spin room where you can use a projector screen to mimic a bike path, an outdoor training space complete with track, and even a delicious juice bar to power up on protein. There is also a children watch area run by Montessori teachers, and a social room where kinesiology research is studied within the facility.

Xanadu offers a wide variety of yoga programs and just expanded in May 2014 from thirteen classes to twenty-one classes, with eleven yoga instructors.

Classes vary from strength, flexibility and balance, to hot yoga and stott pilates — the only place in Windsor-Essex to offer this, according to the gym.

This has helped new instructor, Arja Bedard, take reigns on directing the program. One student stated “Arja is a great teacher. People can come in here so distressed, and she is one to strengthen and help. We are all happy she’s here.”

When it came to designing, the Shepley sisters knew what they wanted: organic shapes, bright colours, and ideal private bathrooms.

After meeting with an architect for half a day, the first planning draft was a hit. “It was amazing that we had that understanding with our architect, he gave us exactly what we knew we wanted and needed for this space,” says Simone.

“We are both so blessed to have met such amazing people since opening, especially after hearing everyones success stories,” adds Simone, speaking on behalf of both her and Samantha.

Not only does Xanadu offer unlimited facility memberships, they now offer yoga-only memberships for those who just want to experience the classes.

Xanadu Health Club is located at 446 Advance Boulevard in Tecumseh, just a few minutes short of Manning Road. You can contact them at 519-727-8822 for further information regarding prices and hours.
