The annual Christmas in Tecumseh held last Friday, November 25th, 2016 is being called a success by the town.

Officials say that an estimated 7,000 people lined the streets to see Santa and his friends arrive in Tecumseh. The event included activities at the Tecumseh Town Hall and Arena in addition to open houses at the OPP Station, Fire Hall, and EMS on Lesperance Road. Free hot-dogs and hot chocolate were supplied by Zehrs and prepared by the Optimist Club of St. Clair Beach.

A long line of children snaked through to Council Chambers where Santa and Mrs. Claus were available for photos. A number of events were ongoing during this time including putt-putt golf and free skating at the Arena, horse and carriage rides, face painting, Jangles the Clown, crafts and caroling.

“We couldn’t have asked for a better turn-out for another fantastic Tecumseh event,” said Mayor Gary McNamara. “The weather was perfect for the parade and we were so pleased at the high turnout on the streets. I would also like to send a big thank you to the many businesses in Town who participated and humoured us while the roads were closed. The holiday spirit is alive and well in Tecumseh.”

This is the third year the Town has organized the parade and the sixth year Santa has traveled through Town. Parks and Recreation staff worked the entire week prior to the parade setting up lights, displays, tents and preparing all municipal locations for the arrival of the jolly old elf.

“I love seeing all my little friends in Tecumseh,” said Santa Claus to the children of Tecumseh before flying out. “I hope they remember to be good, go to sleep early on Christmas Eve and leave out a carrot for Rudolph.”
