Around noon Tuesday, police were called to Jackson Park next to Kennedy High School after a young male was seen with a firearm in his waistband.

Officers flooded the area in search of the suspect, and located the 16-year-old male in the area of Giles Boulevard and Ouellette Avenue.

The suspect saw the officers and immediately broke into a run. The officers observed the suspect discard the black firearm in the hedges as he fled the scene.

Officers then continued to follow the male in his vehicle and then stopped to make an arrest. The male was then arrested at gunpoint and taken into custody without incident.

Officers searched and located the firearm and determined that it was an air pistol which looked like a realistic semi-automatic pistol.

The teen is charged with the offence of weapon dangerous.
