As goblins and ghosts look to descend on Windsor, one store is having some fun preparing.

On Saturday, October 29, Paper Heroes: Comic Book Lounge & Collectables (2857 Howard Avenue) will celebrate Halloween in a big way. Dubbing their event Halloween Comicfest, the store will be open from 10am to 5pm for people to come out and join the fun.

Those who enjoy Free Comic Book Day should be familiar with some of the plans.

“It’s like free comic book day with a Halloween twist,” said store-owner, Scott St. Amour. “People are welcome to come by and pick up some free Halloween related comics, dress up for the day as their favorite character and maybe pick up some candy related treats.”

This isn’t the only way Paper Heroes is gearing up for Halloween however. Leading up to the night of trick or treating, the store is selling mini-comic packs to hand out for those going door-to-door. These kid-friendly books come in a package of 25 mini-comics for $4.99, making them affordable as well.

Billed as an alternative to candy, sales of the mini-comics have picked-up over the years.

“Sales on the mini packs have grown each year as people find out that they are an option,” said St. Amour. “People seem to really like the idea of handing out something that kids can go back to and at the same time help to promote literacy in younger children.”

October is a busy month for Paper Heroes. Besides their plans for Halloween, the comic book store will attend two conventions in the city. On October 15th and 16th at Ceasars Windsor,  they will take part in Windsor Comic Con — selling everything from comics and toys to statues and collectibles. On October 29th to 30th, they will also be a vendor at Retrorama Classic Collectibles Con, taking place at the Caboto Club.
