The Town of LaSalle is once again set to recognize volunteers for their hard work and dedication.

“Once again this year, we were overwhelmed by the nominations that we received,” said Meloche. “So many people in LaSalle give to help others. It is difficult for the committee to choose who should be acknowledged,” said Councillor Crystal Meloche.

This year the town will recognize:

Citizen of the Year – Rama Musharbash
While living in LaSalle with her husband, Bryan, Rama noticed that there was a need for a place for local youth to hangout. With the support of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, LaSalle Police Service and other like-minded business professionals, Rama established “LaSalle Hangout for Youth”. This concept is flourishing in LaSalle and is giving youth between the ages of 12 and 19 a place to hangout and enjoy the company of other youth, while expanding their social and educational skills.

Young Citizen of the Year – Christina Guido
Christina is described as a self-motivated young woman who assists in a variety of areas in LaSalle and the broader community. Christina led a campaign to collect canned goods for the LaSalle Food Bank that runs out of St. Andrew Anglican Church. The food bank was overwhelmed at her success. In addition, Christina and her sister organized a garage sale and donated the proceeds to the Welcome Shelter for Women and Street Help. Christina also volunteers her time with the Rotary Club of LaSalle, parent-teacher nights at Sandwich Secondary School, the youth group at St. Paul’s Church and area nursing homes, to name only a few.

Young-at-Heart Citizen of the Year – Bea Rene
Bea has devoted herself to the LaSalle Friendship Club for more than 30 years. Bea was president of the club for eight years, and is always sure to put the best interests of the club first.

Outstanding Board Member – Don Durham
Don has been a board member with both the LaSalle Stompers Soccer Club and LaSalle Minor Hockey Association. Don is being recognized for all of the hours that he dedicates to the children, youth and citizens of LaSalle.

Outstanding Service Club Volunteer – Linda Amato
Linda is an active member of the Rotary Club of LaSalle. In this capacity, Linda plans and executes the Holiday Hope Basket Program, which provides a basket of food items to families in need in our community. She also assists in the planning of the club’s Crystal Drop Gala, annual golf tournament and Big Hats and High Tea event. Linda’s commitment and passion is evident in all that she does.

The Volunteer Recognition Celebration will be held at the LaSalle Civic Centre on Friday, September 23rd at 7pm. There are a limited number of tickets available to attend. Tickets can be purchased at the Finance counter on the first floor of the LaSalle Civic Centre for $25 each. Tickets must be purchased by Monday, September 19th.
