A new Essex dog park is set to open next Wednesday.

The new off-leash enclosed space is located just east and directly adjacent to the temporary dog park near the Essex Centre Sports Complex.

The new permanent location for the off-leash dog park was unofficially opened July 12th after fencing, benches, trails and signs were installed. Despite a lack of rain, grass is growing in most spots. It officially opens Wednesday, August 10th at 6pm.

Doug Sweet, Director of Community Services, says that community support and organized fundraising efforts by the Essex Dog Park Committee ensured the success of this project.

“The dogs in our community are exceptionally lucky to have such an excellent support structure,” says Sweet. “With the help of generous donations, members of the Essex Dog Park Committee have remained steadfast in their mission to establish a permanent and safe environment for dogs to meet, socialize and pursue a healthy, active lifestyle.”

Casandra Finn, chair of the Essex Dog Park Committee, is excited about the grand opening and encourages all pooches, puppies over 4 months old and pals to gather at the dog park on August 10th for a special celebration.

“We invite all dogs to join us for this fun-filled event,” says Finn. “We’re excited to celebrate this community-focused project and the strong community support that made it possible.”
