Tecumseh OPP are warning about a new phone scam in the community.

Police say that on July 21st, 2016, two separate reports were received where the fraudster advised the complainants that their Hydro One accounts were in arrears and required immediate action to clear up.

The complainants were instructed to purchase prepaid debit cards from a specific website and then provide the caller with the PIN.

Police say this is a scam.

Police also advise that it is not necessary to contact the OPP if you  have received one of these calls unless you are a victim of fraud that can be attributed to this scam.

Any calls of this nature should be directed to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 or to their website at www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca. This website will provide an online means of reporting and offers great tips so that you do not become a victim of this or any other fraud.
